Biddeford, Maine

Send one letter to the Council.

Biddeford hasn’t bought plate readers, and no rule requires a public hearing before the City buys surveillance technology. This letter asks the Council for both. Add your name and send it — it’s already written.

The letter

I don't want plate readers here.

Subject Please keep license plate readers out of Biddeford

Dear Mayor and Councilors,

I'm a Biddeford resident and I'm asking you to keep automated license plate readers out of this city.

These systems photograph every car that passes, store the images in a searchable database, and share them with agencies far outside Biddeford. Ordinary driving should not become a searchable government record simply because a vehicle passed a camera.

Please support an ordinance that (1) prohibits the City from buying, installing, or sharing data with license plate recognition systems, and (2) requires a public hearing and a Council vote before the City buys any surveillance technology.

Thank you for your time.

This is how we know how many residents have written, and from which wards. That number is the argument at the podium.

We write when the ordinance hits an agenda, and nowhere else. No sharing, no selling, unsubscribe any time.

If you want more

There are six other letters

This one is the plain version. There are others written for business owners, for people who care about the cost, for people who don’t like politics, and for people who already know what a plate reader is. Pick a different one, or read what the ordinance actually says.
